I shared something recently that I thought might be helpful to anyone who is
having difficulty in identifying with, or defining, their Higher Power.
I grew up in an environment where church, religion ... even spiritality ... was not
something that was talked about or emphasized. I was simply in survival mode,
as an only child, living with two alcoholic parents. As I got older, my search for
my Higher Power - God, as I understand Him, has been a work in progress ...
taking me on a journey to find something that is comfortable for me. Sometimes,
I think I am still on that journey!
Reading is one of my passions, and a couple of years ago, I randomly stumbled
upon a book entitled "When God Winks." I thought it might be of help to anyone
who is struggling with the concept of a HP. Each day, I pay a little more
attention to the "little things," so that I can catch the God winks. As a result,
my HP might take on a different form everyday ... one day it might be a
spectacular sunset; one day it might be that near accident I avoided because
I touched my brakes for no apparent reason; one day it might be an unexpected
phone call from a distant friend or relative; one day, it was passing an acquaintence
on a sidewalk in Chicago while on business (we're both from Ohio)!
... anyway,
Anyone else remember Schoolhouse Rock? ... the book is written by its creator
(even that was a "wink" to me
Here is a description from the book ...
"It is not by accident that you just picked up When God Winks. Whether you call it synchronicity or coincidence, what brought you to this book today is worth remembering. In fact, you may have suspected all along that there is more to coincidence than meets the eye. These seemingly random events are actually signposts that can help you successfully navigate your career, relationships, and interests. Squire Rushnell shows us that by recognizing our "God Winks," we can use the untapped power of coincidence to vastly improve our lives. The author applies his compelling theory as to why coincidences exist to fascinating stories in history, sports, medicine, and relationships involving both everyday and famous people including Barbra Streisand, Charles Schulz, Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Costner, Mark Twain, and Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson."
Hope it is helpful ... if not in helping with the concept of a HP,
then perhaps as entertaining reading! Take what you want ...
Hugs to all of you!
Janet
