Music is a huge part of my life and I could probably add songs here all day long. But if I had to narrow it down...

Prayer in Open D by Emmyou Harris

Little Bird by Lynn Miles (It's next to impossible to find this on the internet unless buying and downloading.)

They both touch on heartache and despair, but both end hopeful.

William McDowell: "I wont go back"........very powerful. I wont go back, cant go back, to the way it used to be........a gospel praise song - beautiful and builds to a powerful anthem. take a listen! Can apply to us as well as the addict who wants change, determined to stay on track.................

To smoke. Push play on my phone. and there is stay by rianna my current my heart is bleeding and will never stop. music sure isn't a cure but it most assuredly is a warm hug. back to the start again... And again. when will i learn and why don't i get off this merry go round.

I could imagine all of you singing this to me, to us, to each other. This song just spoke to me so clearly... There was no doubt that I wanted to share this with you all and as I posted it, WHAM, HP just smacked me in the head.

The song, by Mavis Staples, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

In fact I have decided I need to copy this over and share. I have taken some little tiny baby steps. More on the flip side.....

Thanks for all these suggestions. I am a big music buff and love to add to my playlist. My favorite song is --- Swim by Jack's Mannequin. As you can see I used it as my id.

This song is appropriate for our ALO and ourselves --- really for everyone--
Give it a listen

You've gotta swim
Swim for your life
Swim for the music
That saves you
When you're not so sure you'll survive
You gotta swim
And swim when it hurts
The whole world is watching
You haven't come this far
To fall off the earth
The currents will pull you
Away from your love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave
Begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets
They fired at me from a gun
A crack in the armor
I swim to brighter days
Despite the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in
I swim

You gotta swim
Through nights that won't end
Swim for your families
Your lovers your sisters
And brothers and friends
Yeah you've gotta swim
Through wars without cause
Swim for the lost politicians
Who don't see their greed as a flaw

The currents will pull us
Away from our love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave
Begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets
They fired at me from a gun
Cracking me open now
I swim for brighter days
Despite the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in
Well I'm not giving in
I swim

You gotta swim
Swim in the dark
There's no shame in drifting
Feel the tide shifting and wait for the spark
Yeah you've gotta swim
Don't let yourself sink
Just find the horizon
I promise you it's not as far as you think
The currents will drag us away from our love
Just keep your head above
Just keep your head above
Just keep your head above
Swim, swim
Just keep your head above

I love the harder stuff. No, not death metal or anything. I have always been into punk and hardcore punk. I love Straight Edge hardcore. Some may know what SXE is, for those who don't, Straight Edge is a movement that started in the early eighties in the hardcore punk scene. It was started by those who were tired of the same old use of alcohol and drugs even cigarettes as a social tool for acceptance, coping or recreation. Music has always been my outlet and this is one of my favorites and keeps me positive and focused.

I know the pain, I feel it too and it's tearing us apart
Can you take a breath, push it aside
And pick yourself back up?

You know that the choice to live your life
Lies in the palm of your hand

You've got the answers you need, just look inside yourself

So much at stake, can't waste our time chasing standards
We never set
We know that the choice to live our lives
Lies in the palms of our hands

And with the struggles faced just to make it through the day
Stepped out of line and found a better way
So much at stake and we can't let our lives pass us by
And the only ones we'll ever chase
Are the standards that we set

Now's the time to leave all our mistakes behind
Because we've found the only truth we'll ever need
Every struggle faced and choices made will see us through
The words we've said, the promises kept
Is the only truth we need.

For those who may want to put the music to the lyrics I'll past a link.

I am a huge lyric person, and the song of the moment is "Anthem" by Leonard Cohen.

The chorus:

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

Gives me hope...
