With the understanding that addiction is a disease and the realization that we are powerless over it as well as over people's lives, we are ready to do something useful and constructive with our own.

Then, and only then can we be of any help to others.

Years ago, I think 4 or 5, I wrote a post about how the next Christmas I was going to go on a cruise. I didn't - nor the next year or so on...but, tomorrow we leave for Florida, spend some time there - and we're going on an 8 day cruise. I'm sort of in shock that we're actually doing this. My husband and I have gone on some great vacations but we've always taken our grandsons with us - and had a great time. Yesterday, my youngest grandson asked if we couldn't have done this when he had a school break so he could go too. Noooo - this is just for hubby and me. Love the grandsons to bits but we are doing this.

What's changed? Am I more comfortable leaving now? Not really. In fact, red flags are popping up...but, going anyway. Not backing out. We will return the week before Christmas and I will throw something together and be OK with it. I owe this to myself and to my husband.

It's time. To trust. I am not in control. I never have been.

So happy for both of you - sounds like a great vacation and then still have Christmas. Good for you - I'm jealous. Paula

My husband and I went on a great vacation in May to Maui and Kona. We were gone for two weeks. The timing was not good, two active addicts in our space, my ageing parents needing help. I did what I could and flew my sister out to spend a week with my parents, and then we just gave up and left. For two weeks we never turned the TV on once, we watch the ocean waves crashing on the shore -went for walks -talked to people and just generally decompressed.
I rate that as one of the best vacations I have ever had. It was so badly needed and has helped carry me through a lot since. Enjoy your time regardless of what’s going on at home. It’ll still be there when you come back. Have a great vacation!

I remember also your saying that you would take a cruise.

It won't matter where you are....just as you said
It's time. To trust. I am not in control. I never have been.
oh so true. How powerful I want to be, but the reality is just that....

I am not in control. I never have been.

Do what you need for your life today. We aren't promised what will
happen tomorrow, or next week, or next year.

Let go and Enjoy the hell out of that cruise!

Bring tank tops and T-shirts for Florida. It's hot here! I hope you both have a wonderful time.

"It's time. To trust. I am not in control. I never have been".

Such powerful words.
I would like to have them tattooed on me.

Have an amazing time. You deserve this.
