Forum Guidelines

With the understanding that addiction is a disease and the realization that we are powerless over it as well as over people's lives, we are ready to do something useful and constructive with our own.

Then, and only then can we be of any help to others.

Forum Guidelines

Post by Naranon_Admin » Fri Mar 03, 2017 12:36 pm

Welcome to the Forum. We have a few guidelines to help us share safely and to protect our anonymity. Please take a few moments to review them.

Newcomers are encouraged to read the topic Nar-Anon's 12 Steps, Traditions & Concepts posted in the Announcements section of the Nar-Anon Family Groups page. We also suggest Online Meeting Guidelines and New Schedule also posted in the Announcements section of the Nar-Anon Family Groups page. These guidelines are based upon them and adapted so they work for this online forum.

This Forum is hosted by Eastern Pennsylvania Region of Nar-Anon. This Forum is not considered an autonomous Nar-Anon group. While the Forum is used as a recovery resource for many, its primary function is outreach: to provide information about the Nar-Anon program and to encourage the friends and family members of addicts to attend Nar-Anon meetings. A chat room (with separate guidelines) is available for on-line meetings. These meetings are conducted in a similar manner to regular face to face Nar-Anon meetings. We follow, as closely as possible, the 12 Traditions and avoiding the 3 destructive forces (part of ‘Keeping Our Meetings Healthy’).

Guidelines for membership in and participation on the Forum have been developed over time to provide some general ground rules for the Forum and its members. A moderating team of active Forum members, working a Nar-Anon program, with a Nar-Anon sponsor, were appointed by Area 10 to ensure that basic guidelines are followed and to oversee the day-to-day functions of the Forum.

There are just a very few areas that should be avoided in accordance with our Traditions, Concepts and Destructive Forces.

We do not:

Discuss Alternative programs (including prescribed prescription alternatives) that are not 12 Step

Discuss particular religious or political views

Make personal attacks

Use disrespectful language

Engage in "crosstalk" in a thread

Post non Nar-Anon websites , social media addresses, promotional materials and
or websites, in our profiles, in posts, responses or in chat room shares

Refer to Non-CAL material anywhere on Forum (including Friendship and Grieving) and in the Chat room*
This includes non-CAL Al-Anon material as it violates the legal agreements between Nar-Anon and Al-Anon

Post under more than one name/identity

Advise: we can only suggest by telling how we solved similar problems through our experiences, strength and hopes.

Gossip about others, including the addict. The careless discussion of other people’s personal difficulties is contrary to the principles of our program. We know that nobody wants to deliberately tear down the group or its principles. WHAT YOU SEE HERE - WHAT YOU HEAR HERE, WHEN YOU LEAVE HERE - LET IT STAY HERE.

Tradition 11 tells to protect the anonymity of all members, so that we can all feel safe to say what we need to. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions.

* Posts that include quotations from conference approved and non-conference approved literature, will be allowed as part of a Nar-Anon based share. If you read something, it becomes part of your experience, strength and hope. Sharing this is encouraged. Please avoid directly quoting more than 2-3 sentences due to copyright laws. If you do quote, please ensure you share your experience, strength and hope from the quotation without mentioning the Non CAL source/author.

Procedures for dealing with Violations and complaints.

Violations of these guidelines may result in reminders and then warnings from the moderating team. The moderators may edit, delete or lock any post that infringes the guidelines, 12 Traditions, 12 Concepts of Service or the 3 Destructive Forces.

After a user has received three written warnings (or at the discretion of the Moderating team if circumstances warrant) the individual will temporarily lose all Forum privileges for a period of three months. This would include posting and chat room access.

If a further violation occurs, all Forum privileges will be lost permanently. Privileges may be restored by 1) applying to the head moderator and 2) with confirmation that the individual is working a 12 step program with a Nar-Anon sponsor. If further violations occur they will be dealt with on an individual basis after the moderating team discusses the situations.

The great majority of the time, Forum members conduct themselves in a respectful way. There are, however, situations in which members may not be able to resolve matters among themselves and may request the assistance of the moderating team. When this occurs, the moderating team may suggest program-based solutions. If there are serious violations of Forum guidelines, the moderating team may take other actions when a member makes a formal complaint.

Any complaint received by the moderating team will be dealt with through a team review and discussion of the specific case. The person making the complaint will receive feedback as soon as possible. Anonymity will be protected.

Please enjoy the Forum . Many of us come here hurting and we come back to work on recovering so let’s remember to put the principles of the program above our individual personalities.
