The song that I related to my life before I found Naranon.

With the understanding that addiction is a disease and the realization that we are powerless over it as well as over people's lives, we are ready to do something useful and constructive with our own.

Then, and only then can we be of any help to others.

The song that I related to my life before I found Naranon.

I grew to love metal. A lot of the lyrics used to fit the misery that I so often faced in my daily life so perfectly. Especially this one song by In Flames, called "Only For the Weak", and this part, I swear, was written with the disease of addiction in mind lol. (Ok probably not, but it fits so perfecty):

"I can't tolerate your sadness
Cause it's me you are drowning
I've become the lie, beautiful and free
In my own righteous mind
I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me
Sell me the infection, it's only for the weak
No need for sympathy, the misery that is me
No need for sympathy, it's only for the weak
On bleeding knees, I accept my fate
Every time you run, I fall behind
And so I hear my voice again
The tale of the bitter man that I am
Shake the silence and hear what it says
The tranquil pride that becomes the lie."

I'm sure you all understand how that could fit, whether you like metal or not. But now that I've become more stable, I just enjoy the music itself and am happy that I'm not that song anymore :) So just wanted to share that bit of progress with you all. Hope you're all having a good day!
"We've got a problem"
First of all, there is no "we",
I'm detached from you completely
I'VE got a problem;
You tell lies and think it won't get back to me.

It's a far cry from the Beach Boys  --but I understand the sentiment of the lyrics.

Now how about a little Aretha and "R-E-S-P-E-C-T"!!!

TYFS!! and keep coming back!!

My mood is easily affected by music. In recovery, I've made a lot of mixes called, 'Joy', 'Upbeat', 'Inspiration'. I think with my melancholic tendencies I sometimes relished feeling so lost in a sad song. Those lyrics completely describe how I used to feel.

So glad I have the awareness now to take better care of my moods. Thanks for this great share.
With love & appreciation,

Melinda

On bleeding knees, I accept my fate ....

And this is why we have our program. We do not have to accept fate .... we can choose recovery.

Cheryl, yeah I know I don't have to accept that fate anymore.

And I know I don't have to let his moods affect me or have my serenity become "a lie".

Thanks to you, too, Melinda, and Melissa for your support.
